TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM

K-State at Salina offers qualified students the rare opportunity to participate in the university transportation program as a fully qualified co-pilot.

Once students complete the Crew Resource Management and Turbine Transition courses, they are placed on a call list. The call list is rotated so each student receives approximately 20 hours in the either the Cessna CitationJet or the Beechcraft King Air C-90A. Depending upon availability, some students receive more than 20 hours flying transportation trips. Students will have the opportunity to fly both aircraft and must receive their FAR 61-55 co-pilot endorsement prior to flying the CitationJet. On each flight, students are accompanied by a fully qualified and type-rated K-State pilot who occupies the left seat and serves as a mentor. Left seat pilots will either be K-State faculty members or professional transportation pilots employed by K-State. The trips are primarily short to medium range and all trip expenses incurred are paid for by K-State. For these trips, students are charged for the initial three hours at a rate of $50 per hour for the King Air and $75 per hour for the jet, and are not billed for subsequent hours. Passengers are K-State officials traveling on official university business.
