LIGHTS ON K-STATE EVENT CANCELED DUE TO DELAY OF GLOBALFLYER

Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005

SALINA – Lights on K-State, a Feb. 10 fund raiser for Kansas State University at Salina, has been canceled as a result of a delay in the mission dates of the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer. All ticket holders will be refunded the full purchase price promptly.

“We are disappointed that we must cancel this special event,” said Dennis Kuhlman, K-State at Salina dean, “but our commitments to the success of the GlobalFlyer prevent us from doing both events well.”

The program was to feature the K-State Singers and K-State’s Latin Jazz Ensemble.

The Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer will attempt a solo, non-stop flight around the world. The plane is scheduled to launch and land in Salina, and mission control operations will be housed on the K-State at Salina campus. Originally scheduled to take place in January, the mission has been postponed to mid-February due to weather conditions and aircraft testing.
