STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS TO HOST BENEFIT SUPPER FOR KARCZ ON FEB. 8

When members of K-State at Salina’s Flight Team, Women in Aviation, Alpha Eta Rho and Phi Delta Theta chapters heard that Tom Karcz, assistant professor of aviation and the Flight Team sponsor, and his family were involved in a serious car accident on Jan. 30, they wanted to help out.

Members of the four student organizations have put together a community-wide benefit spaghetti supper to help the Karcz family on Monday, Feb. 8, 7-10 p.m., in the K-State at Salina College Center.

Karcz and his wife, Jessica, were headed to the K-State v. KU game when the car hit a patch of black ice and rolled three times. Tom was released from the Salina Regional Hospital with minor injuries but Jessica, who is five months pregnant, was airlifted to Stormont-Vail hospital in Topeka with a fractured skull, broken ribs and a fractured finger. Sonogram pictures and heartbeat indicate that the baby is fine and Tom reports that his wife is improving every day.

Jessica works for Security Savings Bank in Salina.

The evening’s menu includes spaghetti, corn, garlic bread, brownie, and beverages. Suggested donation is $8. A silent auction will also be held. All proceeds will go directly to the Karcz family to aid them in their recovery.

“The K-State at Salina Flight Team, Women in Aviation, Alpha Eta Rho, and Phi Delta Theta, along with the rest of the K-State at Salina family, appreciate the community’s support during this difficult time for the Karcz family,” said Kristen Lingg, one of the event’s coordinators.

Donations can also reach the Karcz family if mailed to The Karcz Family Recovery Fund, c/o Security Savings Bank, 317 S Santa Fe, Salina, KS, 67401.
