COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY & AVIATION HELPS PUSH TELEFUND PAST RECORD

March 20, 2003

Telefund 2003 continued a tradition of setting new records while the annual, month-long, all-volunteer telephone campaign topped $1.4 million.

Student callers and alumni donors in the College of Technology and Aviation combined for 249 pledges worth $13,590. Telefund, coordinated by the KSU Foundation, is the world’s largest all-volunteer telephone campaign for higher education. During Telefund 2003, 1,660 students dedicated at least one evening to contacting alumni, receiving 21,221 pledges worth $1,403,303.

“Considering the rough economy and uncertain geo-political situations in the past few months, I am so impressed with the success of Telefund 2003,” said Dean Dennis Kuhlman. “Telefund may only last a few days on our campus, but the gifts will have a long-term impact as they continue to improve an already outstanding academic environment. As an all-volunteer campaign, Telefund also helps our students see of the value of alumni support.”

In the College of Technology and Aviation, the majority of the revenue will provide students with funds for their club projects, educational resources and scholarships.

The theme for Telefund 2003 was “Call of the Wild Cat”. Although Telefund spans one month, alumni and corporate matching gifts are received year around. When pledge receipts and “let me think about it…” gifts are combined, Telefund receipts may exceed 100% of the pledge total. Additionally, corporate matching gifts typically add about $1 for each $8 contributed by alumni.

More than 100 businesses nationwide provided more than $60,000 in prizes to encourage student participation and recognize selected students. Additionally, Mom, Dad and other family members contributed more than $35,000 to the Parents Telefund Scholarship to provide $250 scholarships to randomly selected callers.
