April 3, 2006 K-STATE AT SALINA OPEN HOUSE TO FEATURE HOMERUN DERBY, ELECTRIC CAR RACES, FLY-IN SALINA – K-State at Salina will come to life for the annual K-State Open House, Saturday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. With activities for families and all ages, the day offers a wide variety of fun, free activities showcasing K-State at Salina. The event is free and open to the public. Two new events this year will be a homerun derby and electric car races. The homerun derby, sponsored by the K-State at Salina Phi Delta Theta social fraternity, will use a 16-inch softball to make it more fun for all ages. Also for the first time, the K-State at Salina will be the host site for a high school electric car race, where high school clubs from around the state compete in electric cars they have designed and built at school. “The variety of activities and events make this a perfect day to come see K-State at Salina,” said Robin Mikols, sophomore in professional pilot from Wichita and Open House student chairwoman. “There will be a lot of fun things to do and see for all ages, plus a lot of good information for any prospective student who decides to visit campus that day.” The aviation department will be sponsoring the third annual Wildcat Fly-In that day, as well, drawing in pilots and aviation enthusiasts from around the region. The K-State Flight Team will serve breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m.; a suggested $5 donation will benefit the team’s training and travel expenses. In addition, there will be an FAA safety seminar at 10 a.m. Open House includes dozens of demonstrations, events and hands-on activities that take place across the campus. A complete schedule can be found at
“Open House is a tradition for the entire Kansas State University system,” Mikols said. “This year’s event should be a great time for anyone to come out, see some purple pride and enjoy some fun activities for the whole family.” |
