CLASSES STARTING SOON AT KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY AT SALINA August 9, 2004 SALINA – Enrollment and orientation for new students is coming to an end at Kansas State University at Salina as the university prepares for the start of fall classes on Wednesday, Aug. 18. “We are still enrolling students in courses,” said Dixie Schierlman, associate dean of student life. “People considering taking classes this fall are definitely encouraged to meet with our admissions staff very soon, before classes begin.” The College of Technology and Aviation, located on the Salina campus, offers nearly a dozen degree programs, as well as a variety of general education classes and continuing education offerings. Degree programs are offered in areas aviation, business and engineering technology, including computer, construction, electrical and mechanical. A wide variety of courses are still open for additional students, Schierlman said. Offerings include Web page development, introduction to computer technology and basic electronics, as well as general education classes, such as introduction to literature, elements of statistics, principles of finance, introduction to sociology and general psychology. “Our degree programs are centered on hands-on applications of learning in a small, personal environment,” Schierlman said. “There are tremendous opportunities for job placement right after graduation, but we also have people from Salina and nearby communities who will enroll in a class or two for professional development or personal enrichment, without pursuing an actual degree.” The College of Technology and Aviation is one of the smaller colleges in the K-State system, with annual enrollment of approximately 1,000 students. Courses and grades taken on the Salina campus are recorded on a student’s official K-State transcript. The admissions office may be reached by phone at 785-826-2640 or 1-800-248-5782 (toll free in Kansas). Or visit the College’s Web site at www.sal.ksu.edu.
