Tuesday, December 14, 2005 K-STATE AT SALINA PROFESSOR PARTICIPATES IN GRADUATE PROGRAM SALINA – Kansas State University at Salina is assisting with the coordination of a graduate certificate in business administration, beginning in the spring 2006 semester. This educational program will be offered entirely online by the College of Business Administration in Manhattan, with a local contact faculty member at K-State at Salina. The Salina faculty member, Fred Guzek, assistant professor of arts, sciences and business, will be available to help explain the program, answer questions and assist students pursuing the online certificate. “This is a great opportunity for students who are planning on – or even just thinking about – getting a master’s in business administration,” Guzek said. “It’s a way to get some of the course work toward the master’s degree. But even for those not wishing to finish an MBA, the certificate gives students something final to work toward.” The graduate certificate requires five graduate courses – 15 graduate hours – and provides an opportunity for students to gain an understanding of the basic functional areas of business, and how each contributes to an effective business organization. Upon completion of the certificate, students may choose to apply for the K-State MBA program, in which case all courses will count toward the master’s degree completion. Beginning in January 2006, two of the courses will be offered to distance students in an online format. By fall 2006, a minimum of four of the five courses will be offered online. The courses cover areas of finance, management, accounting, operations and marketing. For more information about the graduate certificate in business administration, prospective students may contact Guzek at 785-826-2648, or by e-mail at fguzek@k-state.edu.
