Academic Curriculum

Students must complete 120 hours of coursework to graduate. Program faculty will guide students through their studies, allowing them to benefit from their years of industry knowledge. In addition, students will become part of a program with a tradition of achievement! PFP program students have placed in the top three teams in the National Collegiate Financial Planning Competition (sponsored by Ameriprise Financial, Inc.) in seven of the last twelve years.

Admission to the personal financial planning program requires completion of FSHS 105 (Introduction to Personal and Family Finance) with a grade of B or better. A sample of professional courses includes: Employee Benefits and Retirement Planning, Investing for the Family’s Future, Estate Planning for Families, Personal Income Taxation, Financial Counseling, and Advanced Personal and Family Finance. Kansas State University does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP (with flame logo)® certification marks. CFP® Certification is granted only by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to those persons who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience and examination requirements.
