K-State at Salina Acceptable Network Use Agreement
Acceptance of this User Agreement is required in order to register and
gain access to the internet and K-State's networked resources.
Violation of any part of this agreement may result in sanctions,
including but not limited to temporary loss of internet connectivity and
administrative cancellation of ethernet service.
We recommend that you print a copy of this agreement and save it for future reference.
Terms of Network Use
When using K-State's computing resources (eg. computer labs and network
connectivity), you must agree to the following:
I WILL:
- abide by the policies set forth in K-State's
IT Policies
and K-State's Honor System.
- keep my operating system up-to-date with critical patches and service packs.
- install the University provided/required antivirus software
and make sure that it is kept up-to-date. If I use an operating
system (eg. Linux) that is not supported by the University provided
antivirus, I will install my own antivirus software and keep it
up-to-date.
- keep my computer free of spyware, viruses, trojans and worms.
- ensure that all login accounts on my computer use a strong password.
- respect the privacy of other users. This includes refraining from attempts to
gain access to any organization or person's computer, software or
data without the knowledge and consent of such organization or
person. This also includes refraining from the use of any tool designed to 'sniff' network
traffic or 'scan' other computers or equipment on the network.
- respect other network users by exercising restraint in my use of shared network resources.
I will NOT:
- turn on a wireless access point (including devices configured
to operate in "ad hoc" mode) or any other wireless
device that might disrupt or otherwise affect other users'
access to the wireless connection provided by the University.
- connect a hub/switch/router or a computer configured as a hub/switch/router to the University network
- provide FTP, SMTP, DHCP, P2P, HTTP or other network services via the University network.
- use Napster, BitTorrent or other point-to-point file distribution/sharing software.
- perform any network activity that could adversely affect other network users or interfere with University provided
network services.
- make, download, distribute or use unauthorized copies of
licensed/copyrighted software, music, videos, or literature.
